Tour de Greenville, mini-van style

For the past year or so my parents have been enjoying multi-weekly (did I just create my own word?) bike rides on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Periodically other of my family members join them for their Saturday jaunts, as it always includes a stop for breakfast at a quaint little cafe several miles up the trail. This past Saturday my crazy parents and brother and sister-in-law decided to brave the sweltering heat for a ride. We decided not to, but we did meet them at the cafe, in our swagger wagon. The boys each enjoyed a pile of pancakes, Sam's plain and Nate's topped with strawberries with sauce and whipped cream! Yum!
After breakfast, we tried to again meet up with the bikers at Furman University, where they typically stop to feed the ducks and geese. Unfortunately, there wasn't road access close enough to where they were on the pond, so we just enjoyed the scenery and watched the animals. We should have been over there:
But, after the family left, all the ducks and geese (and turtles!) raced over to us anyway because Nathanael was tricking them. He kept throwing bark and grass into the water and calling "here geese, get your food!" That silly kid! The swan was beautiful; I can't recall having ever seen one so close. And the water was full of cute little turtles, swimming right with the birds.
We all really enjoyed our time with the ducks and geese, even though we didn't get to feed them. There's always next time. Nate says "hey geese":

After our stop at Furman, we headed downtown, where we planned on meeting the bikers once again for "special" ice cream. But first, the boys got a chance to play in the water fountains on that hot, hot, hot day. Paul found a nearby tree to hide beneath, so as not to sizzle in the sun.

Once we could stand the heat no longer (and once we realized the bikers had headed home sans ice cream), we walked down to the Dutch Treat ice cream shop for what I had been waiting all week for! Sam and Nathanael enjoyed cotton candy and strawberry cones, respectively. My choice was green apple. I must say, it wasn't quite as good as Stan's Diner, but it'll do in a pinch (and since Stan's is 3,000 miles away, it's usually a pinch).

And to conclude the longest post ever, on our walk back to our car, we spotted this, suspended in midair:
Any guesses?

I love long posts. that was a good one. Where IS that stinking tree with all the roots? I've always wanted to go take pictures there. That one picture of Sam was professional-grade. Must have been our photography class. HA.

Looks like fun! Did Sam carve his name in that tree by himself? =)

I love the Swamp Rabbit Trail! Your Saturday sounds like a lot of fun - imagine when your boys are old enough to ride the trail - it comes quick! I see a spider web on that uber-cool shot but cannot figure out the rest of the story.
