Then it was time for our next Father's Day treat: watching a Nationals baseball game. When Paul bought the tickets, who could predict it would be the hottest day in the history of baseball!! We prepared with plenty of sunscreen, brought in a bag full of juice boxes and cold bottled water, and a cooling towel, but it wouldn't have mattered how much refreshment I packed. It never would have been enough. The seats were blistering hot; sweet Claire couldn't even sit her delicate baby skin on them. The drinks were gone within minutes of being there. It was miserably hot. We stayed long enough to see all of the points that were scored in the game, and left after the first inning.

The Rogers Family Goes to D.C.: Day 2
Our second day in D.C. was Father's Day and it was a scorcher! During the mid-morning, we headed over to National Harbor. It was really pretty and had neat places to shop or eat. We stopped by the Peeps store and of course had to buy some Mike & Ike's from the self-serve choose-your-own-flavors tube thingys. After grabbing some lunch, we splurged on a Ferris wheel ride, with it being Father's Day and all. It was an enjoyable ride and the best part was that we rode in air-conditioned carts.
That evening was probably the best time we had in D.C. We headed to Georgetown to just get out for some downtime. The area was really neat and interesting to look at. But we were headed for the waterfront park. The kids (the two without any inhibition about being kids) could have played for hours in the splash pad. We stayed until dusk. Then, with the remaining daylight, we drove through Georgetown University and the beautiful surrounding neighborhood, as we made our way back to our hotel for one last night.
