On this day, we drove to Hershey and took an entertaining trolley tour of the town. There were two actors who, as we drove by the various landmarks, told the story of Milton Hershey. There was singing and acting and it was informative as well as keeping the attention of the kids. Of course they handed out a few pieces of Hershey's candy along the way as well.
Back at Hershey World, we took a short tour that was like a kiddie theme park ride through a fake chocolate factory. There were singing cows and bright lights and lots of fake chocolate. It was fun.
That afternoon back on the farm, we watched as a beautiful storm rolled across the land. It was a big one and of course poor Nathanael was frightened. Though I love a good thunderstorm and it didn't last terribly long, we were all dismayed when it knocked out our power. Not wanting to be cooped up in the dark, we decided to go on a search for ice cream. Being in farm and Amish country, we wanted GOOD ice cream, real ice cream, homemade ice cream. So, we set our sights on Pine View Dairy which was about a 40 minute drive away. And it was worth it. It was so delicious. When we ordered, I made the mistake of assuming Claire would be satisfied with just sharing with us. As soon as everyone had their ice cream in hand, she was FAR from satisfied about not having her own. We quickly ordered her just what she wanted: a strawberry cone with a cherry one top.
