The Rogers Family Departs D.C. and Heads for PA: Day 3

On the way out of Virginia, we stopped by the D.C. temple. This was my and the kid's first visit to this temple. For some reason, I had always envisioned it as old and ugly. I was taken aback by it's beauty. And the natural land surrounding it was beautiful also.

The visitors center was more than I expected, too. We were the only ones there when we arrived. A small handful of people trickled through during our visit, but mostly we had plenty of time to check out the very well done exhibits. There was a really fun kids' area that all three kids had to actually be pulled away from. There was a touchscreen tv that Claire enjoying choosing Primary songs to sing along to. There are an artificial tree with touchscreen computers with games and coloring. When the kids finished coloring a picture, their artwork would be displayed on screens in the tree. It was a very enjoyable visit.

Late afternoon, we finally arrived at our next destination: the Miller Homestead, Elizabethtown, PA, We were immediately in love! We were staying in a small apartment attached to an old farmhouse on a working farm. We were free to roam about the property and gather as many fresh eggs as we liked. That was one of the kids' favorite parts of the vacation. They absolutely loved checking on the chickens every time they went outside and bringing back eggs.

The boys and I were eager to stretch our legs after the long ride from D.C. and to explore our farm oasis, so we took a walk. The cows were so curious; they all came from whatever they were doing across the pasture to check us out. We stood and enjoyed them for a while, then when we turned back for the farmhouse they followed us for a short way.
