Day 3

For our third and final day in St. Augustine, we could not have asked for better weather! It was absolutely beautiful. The skies were clear and blue, and the temperature was right around 80 degrees. For our big event of the day, we headed to the Castillo de San Marcos, right in the historic district of St. Augustine. This fort is much bigger than Fort Matanzas, and there was a ton to check out.
Though it might be surprising, the boys actually enjoyed our fort visits. I'm not sure how long we were there, guiding ourselves through all the nooks and crannies of the structure, but I could have spent all day just looking out at the wonderful view.
Unfortunately, though they typically have a historic weapons demonstration, it just so happened that the day we were there they were not able to do it. That was a bummer. I'm sure we all would have enjoyed that. Atleast there were still plenty of park rangers roaming about in period soldier uniforms.
After we spent quite a bit of time at the fort, we walked a stretch of the waterfront and meandered through the neat streets of St. Augustine. There was so much to explore and we simply ran out of time.
After returning to our hotel for some lunch, we spent the remainder of the day on the beach.
The next morning, we leisurely packed our things and when we stepped outside to head to the van, it was freezing!! Perfect day to head back home.
