Nathanael's Minute-to-win-it Party

Choosing a party theme for Nathanael's birthday was quite an undertaking this year. Every week he had a new idea of what he wanted, and he kept adding/changing right up until the end. I finally had to just pick Minute-To-Win-It and go with it. He invited a few school friends, church friends, and cousins, and he had a great turn-out. It was loud and crazy, just like Nathanael. Attendees included: Myah and Grayson Hill, Dallin Dyrhaug, Benjamin Murray, Max Ludwig, Sam Nelson, and Joshua Godwin.

Contestants participated in 9 competitions, 2 of which were team events. The first competition was Brrr, It's Cold in Here. In this event, there were 2 teams. Each team had several articles of cold weather clothing. Each team had 1 minute to attempt to dress their smallest team member (Max or Grayson) in all the clothing. Neither team was successful (and neither small child was particularly willing), thought Grayson was very, very close.

Next up was Candy Corn Stack. The object was to stand up a certain number of candy corns in 1 minute. About half the competitors were successful.

Then came Conversation Heart Tower. 3 kids successfully created a tower of candy hearts without it falling over in 1 minute.

Shoveling Snow was the next event. Using one hand, a pile of cotton balls had to be scooped into a bowl. This was Nathanael's first win!

Snowball Toss was a partner competition in which marshmallows had to be caught in a cup. Only 2 teams failed. 

In Snowman Blow Dart, the competitors had to blow q-tips from a straw to knock down a pyramid of snowman cups. Though a test run of this game proved that it was possible, no party competitors were successful.

Noodling Around came next. Using a dry spaghetti noodle, the object of the event was to thread on 5 penne noodles. Nathanael did it (though the timekeeper may have taken a little liberty with the time limit).

To finish off the gaming, we had Suck It Up, which is a transfer of M&Ms from a plate to a bowl with a straw. Who even cares if you win when you get to eat the candy afterward?

Nathanael racked up on all kinds of cool things that he loves- Legos, Nerf guns, a bow and arrow. And he had a wild time with all his best buddies. I'll call that another birthday party success!
