Next up on the last day of school agenda was field day. The honor of attending field day this year fell on Dad. Prior to field day, Sam's class made the saddest looking tie-dyed shirts I've ever seen. As is expected these days, field day was filled with a bunch of non-competitive activities where everyone is a winner. The kids did get a pretty cool treat, though: free shaved ice.
Overall, I think Sam had a pretty great year at his new school. There were some rough times like when he got his Pokemon cards stolen from him on the playground the first week of school, or like when his teacher said he needed to stay after school to work on a project in the library but then she never granted him permission to go there, causing him, who had never stayed after school before, to be confused and head straight to car pick-up where he waited for me to pick him up for the whole extra hour while he was sad and scared. But there were definite positives. Sam had to work hard this year. And he made some really great friends. He played football at recess most days and came home sweaty and worn out.
